New design

Over the past week, as I’ve been doing a lot of website work lately, I decided to change my site yet again, I know I last changed the design in May this year but I really grew bored of it within a month and began hating it, I think that is the main reason as to why I hardly post anything on it, hopefully with a design I actually like I might post more. I’ve also been told not to post boring crap like my “old and new” post which just rambles on about how I painted the office and setup a hi-fi in it. Thrilling eh.

Anyway, no doubt there are a few bugs in the new design and I may need to redraw something, yet again, but so far, I’m quite pleased with it, its a new design route I’ve never explored before, using a landing page that is still technically a page with content, just different to the other pages (so as to not put people off, the kind that skip sites when they get a “splash” page, as they have no content other than “enter here” usually).

Hope you enjoy!

Facebook ruined me

For around 15 years I’ve lived a double life, I’ve kept secrets from my “online friends” and “offline friends” alike, I’ve hidden who I am and that all came crashing down with the invention of Facebook.

I’ve been online since year 9 of high school which would have made me about 13. Back then I think 28.8k modems were all the rage and meant you were ‘super fast’ compared to the 14.4k versions. I remember my first time online with MSN, I had spent a minute connecting to find that there was absolutely no difference online to offline, atleast, that was my first thought.  Then I discovered Microsoft Comic Chat and it changed my world. I spent hours on MSNs IRCX chat servers talking to people from across the pond although I was a kid, I had no sense of maturity in “real life”, let alone online, and swiftly became banned from MSN for being a general pillock.  Who knew a SysOp could actually ban you from a chatroom!

Geek OCD

I don’t know about you but I can be quite anal about the technology I use every day, is it a simple attempt at becoming more efficient or just a subconscious obsession?  Whatever the answer, I have specific routines I abide by and have started expanding my arsenal of techno-weaponry.

I have always been interested in IT and 100% believe it is the way forward in better organisation and increasing efficiency in our every day lives, from promoting better work productivity to making life easier at home, as such I recently began actively seeking better ways to do things I already do, all reinvent-the-wheel-esque.

I have several PCs/Laptops and each one has its own specific use which I tend to stick to, for example, I have a PC that is way too old to keep but I just don’t want to throw it away (a Pentium 450Mhz) which I use as a web server with PHP & MySQL running for my web development, my main PC which is used for browsing/emails/gaming/the odd page code in notepad, my development laptop which contains all my graphic, office & web development software and another laptop which dual boots Ubuntu and Windows XP which I use for my “tech” requirements (diagnostics/IT engineer/blahdy blah).  I used to have 3 or 4 other machines that over the years I just hacked up and used to build other machines but I seriously needed a clear out and thus, removed some redundant machines.  I do however require another desktop, maybe 2, but I’m in no rush to build them/lose my recently reclaimed space any time soon.
